My favorite part of December is hands down hot chocolate and chestnut praline lattes, but Christmas movies are a very close third! I wasn’t planning on doing a favorite Christmas movies list, but when I set down tonight, I couldn’t put Christmas movies out of my mind.
I’ve separated my favorite Christmas movies between traditional and nontraditional! I know these are Christmas movies, but I honestly pop them in to watch (or stream them) all year. So grab some popcorn, a fuzzy blanket, and start a mini marathon with somebody!
Non-Traditional Christmas Movies
“Now I have a machine gun. Ho-ho-ho.”
Bruce Willis and Alan Rickman? Together? I’d probably watch these two grocery shop, so a fun and action packed movie that happens to take place around Christmas is a no brainer for me! Weirdly enough, this is one I pretty much just watch around the holidays.
“Four for you Glen Coco, You GO Glen Coco!”
That Jingle Bell Rock scene is basically iconic, so that’s enough of a connection to Christmas to help this movie easily fall under my favorite Christmas movies. Add in the amusing lines, awesome early 2000’s trends, and the cautionary tale of trying to be something your not and it’s a perfect movie for the holidays and beyond.
The Nightmare Before Christmas
“Forgive me, Mr. Claus. I’m afraid I’ve made a terrible mess of your holiday.”
This movie is basically appropriate anytime during the fall and winter months. Personally, I am huge freaking fan of Jack and Sally and think Tim Burton can do no wrong, so that makes this one of my absolute favorite holiday movies. It’s quirky, funny, and inspired an unforgettable Blink-182 song. Cody hasn’t seen it despite my seven years of influence in his life, so I am literally forcing him to watch it with me tonight!
“The secret of life is butter.”
This is such an adorable, heart warming movie. Queen Latifah nails every single scene in this movie and looks freaking amazing – as always. Add in LL Cool J and it’s a total banger. I binge watch this year round, but during the holiday season, it goes perfectly with a peppermint hot coco and brownies.

Traditional Christmas Movies
“You smell like beef and cheese, you don’t smell like Santa.”
I mean, you had to think this would be on the list? I watch Elf year round, but it’s a must during the holiday season! So many quotable lines and it never fails to make me smile. Also, a blonde Zoey Deschanel is brilliant!
Christmas with the Kranks
” …as odd as it sounds, I didn’t think to ask the butcher where the chocolate was!”
This book turned movie is adorable and one of the first holiday movies I pop in every year. I love the neighborly ending where the entire community comes together to support the Kranks. And let’s face it, who hasn’t considered taking a break from the holidays once or twice?
You’re supposed to be the leading lady in your own life, for God’s sake!
This movie is a wonderful commentary on how we let people treat us, how we should treat others, and respecting those that came before us. The best part of the movie, for me, is Iris’ relationship with Arthur. He really helps her come into her own and understand her own value. I love that Iris and Amanda both begin to understand their worth and value. It’s so much more than a holiday story.
And anything with Jude Law is gold.
What are your favorite holiday movies? Are there any new ones that I must see?
